"Evaluation and Preparation Meeting of Combat with Snow" was held in Istanbul regarding the precipitation that is expected to be effective today and over the weekend.

It has been reported that heavy snowfall is expected in Istanbul from today. According to the statement made by the General Directorate of Meteorology, heavy snowfall, are expected intermittent and local in Istanbul as of today. Due to the expected heavy snowfall, it was announced that education was suspended for 1 day in Trabzon, Giresun and Rize, especially in Istanbul. 
 
According to the statement made by the Istanbul Governor's Office, the meeting at the Provincial Disaster and Emergency Directorate Hasdal Campus was attended by the Governor Ali Yerlikaya, as well as the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IBB) Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu, deputy governors, district governors, district mayors, regional and provincial directors, Disaster and Emergency Management Presidency (AFAD), Disaster Coordination Center (AKOM), fire brigade, transportation, energy and Turkish Red Crescent representatives. At the meeting, measures regarding the expected snowfall in Istanbul were discussed. In his speech at the meeting, Governor Yerlikaya mentioned the works carried out on March 8-12, when heavy snow was effective, and stated that they took precautions in the light of the warnings of the General Directorate of Meteorology.
 

“DO NOT GO TO TRAFFIC AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE, USE PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION IF YOU HAVE TO” 

 
Thanking the residents of Istanbul for the 4-day fight against snow last week, Yerlikaya said: 
 
“Based on our experience, we have warned our fellow citizens about obeying the rules long before the weather conditions. We made the most important preparation in the fight against snow regarding traffic. We said, ‘Don't go out to traffic as much as possible, use public transportation if you have to.’ We saw that the traffic density map of the municipality was green. I would like to thank our fellow citizens who follow the rules.”
Governor Yerlikaya also thanked the Regional Directorate of Highways, Northern Marmara Highway operators, IBB, AKOM, 39 district municipalities, gendarmerie, police, coast guard, Red Crescent and AFAD, and all institutions that took part in snow-fighting efforts. After the speeches, Regional Directorates of Meteorology and Highways, ICA, Northern Marmara Highway Administration, Istanbul and Sabiha Gökçen airports enterprises, İBB AKOM, Red Crescent and AFAD representatives made presentations on the measures to be taken in the fight against snow. 
 

HEAVY SNOWFALL IS EXPECTED 

 
It has been reported that heavy snowfall is expected in Istanbul from today. According to the statement made by the General Directorate of Meteorology, heavy snow falls, intermittent and local, are expected in Istanbul as of today. It is estimated that the snowfall will increase its effect on Saturday, and it will be intense in places, mainly in the interior and high parts, until noon on Sunday. In addition, the wind is expected to blow in the form of a strong and short-term storm (40-70 km / h) from the north and northeast directions. The General Directorate of Meteorology warned to be careful and cautious against negativities such as disruptions in transportation due to snow, icing and frost.
