President of the US House of Representatives Kevin McCarthy, canceled the event which will be organized under the leadership of Palestinian MP Rashida Tlaib, on the occasion of the 75th anniversary of the Nakba, which is known as the "Great Catastrophe", when terrorist Israel usurped the historic Palestinian lands in May 1948 and declared their independence and the Palestinians were expelled from their homes.
McCarthy announced the cancellation of the event, which was expected to be held yesterday in the visitor center area of the US Congress under the leadership of Tlaib.
"Instead, I will host a bipartisan session to celebrate the 75th anniversary of US-Israeli relations," he said.
Speaking to the Free Beacon website, known for its racist editorial policy, McCarthy said, "As long as I am Speaker of the House, we will unequivocally and bipartisanally support Israel's right to self-determination and self-defense."
McCarthy implied that the event in question was antisemitic.
"McCarthy wanted to rewrite history and erase the existence and truth of the Palestinian people, but failed to do so. This event was planned to raise awareness about the Nakba and create space for Palestinian Americans who experienced the Nakba first hand to tell their stories of trauma and survival," Tlaib said.
Stating that they cannot be silenced and that the event will still be held, Tlaib has not yet shared information about the date and venue.
DRAFT PROPOSAL TO RECOGNIZE NAKBA
Tlaib, on the other hand, presented a draft resolution to the House of Representatives on the recognition of the rights of the Nakba and Palestinian refugees on the occasion of the 75th anniversary of the Nakba.
The bill, which invited the United States to officially recognize the Nakba, called for the recognition of the rights of Palestinian refugees and continued support for them.
While emphasizing the need to promote education and public understanding of the realities of the Nakba, the bill called on the US government to condemn Israel's illegal occupation of Palestinian land in the West Bank, including East Jerusalem, and the displacement and violence inflicted on Palestinians.
The bill also urged the United States to refrain from building any diplomatic facilities on Palestinian-owned land expropriated by Israel.
