Stating that there are many problems for the permanent public workers within the scope of the Decree Law No. 696, ‘Öz Sağlık-İş’ Union Chairman Devlet Sert reacted to the compulsory retirement practice that emerged in addition to these problems.

Stating that hundreds of thousands of workers are victims, Sert said, “The public servant can work until the age of 65. Mandatory retirement is not applied to former workers, workers coming through Turkish Employment Agency (İŞ-KUR), but workers who are appointed to the staff with the Decree Law No. 696 are forced to retire at a young age."

“WE OBJECTED TO THE MANDATORY RETIREMENT”

Stating that most of the workers who are sent to compulsory retirement are in their 40s, “Sending these workers to retirement at a young age, in the most productive period of their working life, is contrary to the employment policies being carried out. Contrary to international agreements, contrary to the principle of equality of the Constitution. Moreover, such an inequality means a great sin, misuse of a right. As a union, we decided to object for compulsory retirement. We objected at the very beginning of the Decree Law, and we expressed on every platform that it was not true. We are not satisfied, we organized a workshop on this subject. Components of the public and all other parties agreed on this issue. No one could argue for compulsory retirement. We reported the results of the workshop to the public parties," Sert added.

“IMPLEMENTATION MUST BE RE-ORGANIZED IMMEDIATELY”

Emphasizing that the wrong decision should be reversed as soon as possible, Sert reminded the lack of personnel in the public sector and said, "While these services are already being carried out in difficult conditions due to the lack of personnel in the public sector, things may come to a standstill with the retirement of the workers who will enter the compulsory retirement implementation in the coming period. Our state may not be able to find qualified, skilled and experienced workers to employ. We demand the immediate regulation of this practice, which causes great distress in every aspect.”
