At the beginning of the academic year, students who preferred and settled in the Information Systems and Technologies and Emergency Disaster Management departments of Erzurum Atatürk University, Faculty of Applied Sciences, were shocked when they went to the city with the opening of the university. While the students were waiting to get education in the central campus of the university, the students of these two departments learned that they would study in the Oltu district, which is two and half hours away from the center of Erzurum. The victimized students demand that their education continue on the central campus.
University results were announced at the beginning of the new academic year. Students with university preferences made their way to their universities. However, the students who won the Information Systems and Technologies and Emergency Disaster Management departments in the Faculty of Applied Sciences in the central campus of Erzurum Atatürk University were shocked when they went to the city with the opening of their university. Without informing the students, the location of the faculty was moved to the Oltu district, that is two and half hour away from Erzurum.
The students reacted to this relocation by saying, "We went as the Center, we ended up in Oltu." The victims are demanding that the faculty be moved to the center. The students stated that in addition to the preference and quota guide published by Student Selection and Placement Center (ÖSYM) during the preference period, they made their choices by taking base the ‘Yökatlas’ site, which was established for students to make more accurate choices on their own site and belonging to The Council of Higher Education (YÖK), as a guide. While the guides they take as a basis include information about the region they are located next to the faculties, while the name of the district is not mentioned in the guides within the Faculty of Applied Sciences of Atatürk University, they learned that the faculty was in the district of Oltu after the opening of the university. The students expressed their grievances by bringing the issue to YÖK and the Presidential Communication Center (CIMER). In line with the complaints of the students, YÖK and CIMER found the students justified.
STUDENTS WANT TO GET EDUCATION IN THE CENTRAL CAMPUS
Students' complaints in line with the letter sent to Atatürk University by YÖK, stating that students should continue their education on the campus located in the center, not in the Oltu district, the victimization of the students is documented. Pointing out that there is a shortage of dormitories, meals and transportation in the Oltu region, the students stated that they want to continue education and training in the central campus, as in the article reported by YÖK.
