In our country where income is distributed unequally, 13 billionaires have a wealth of 38.9 billion dollars, while half of the population has a wealth of 38.5 billion dollars.
The fact that banks have increased their profits by 366.4 percent in 2022, when all segments are suffering, proves that the "buy from the poor, give to the rich" policies are implemented.
THE WEALTH OF 13 BILLIONARDS IS EQUAL TO THE WEALTH OF HALF THE POPULATION
While the purchasing power and real income of a large part of the society decrease due to the wrong and unjust economic policies of the government, the rich minority multiplies their wealth.
According to the data published by Oxfam, the wealth of the 13 richest billionaires in Turkey reached $38.9 billion.
On the other hand, the wealth of half of the population in our country is 38.5 billion dollars. The government, which points out interest-bearing loans to the citizens instead of producing solutions at every opportunity, ensures that the interest lobby gets the highest share of the pie.
17.3 PERCENT OF THE POPULATION RECEIVE SOCIAL ASSISTANCE
Tax amnesties, incentive premiums, grant allowances and credit concessions for the wealthy also reveal how income inequality has deepened in Turkey.
In 2021, social protection expenditures increased to 785.7 billion TL, and the number of people receiving a salary within the scope of social protection increased to 14 million 624,000. This shows that 17.3 percent of the total population lives on social benefits.
FROM CITIZEN TO RENTIER
While the purchasing power of the households, whose backs are bent by inflation, exchange rate fluctuations and price hikes, is getting weaker day by day, citizens become dependent on credit and credit cards.
According to the data published by the Banking Regulation and Supervision Agency (BDDK), the amount of consumer loans used by citizens from banks increased by 331.5 billion TL in one year and reached 1 trillion 105 billion 895 million TL.
Again, according to BDDK data, the total net profit of banks in 2022 increased by 366.4 percent compared to the previous year and reached 433.5 billion TL. While large masses of people struggle with high inflation and financial difficulties, a small minority, especially rentiers, multiply their wealth.
