Turkish Education-Sen Union (Türk Eğitim-Sen) President Talip Geylan, who made criticisms about the determined budget, stated that education workers were victims of the economic fluctuations and drew attention to the need to raise them to a humane level of living.

Underlining that education workers have not been able to make ends meet for months as a result of economic fluctuations, Geylan stated that the wages should be raised to a humane level of living in order for the Ministry of Education (MEB) budget to become meaningful and said, “The 2023 MEB budget was announced as approximately 650 billion Turkish Liras (TL) with an increase of 58 percent. As of September 2022, the minimum subsistence limit for a family of four was 17,396 TL. And yet, can we raise the wages of our teachers, administrators, servants, technicians, drivers and civil servants who have been living below the poverty line for months, at least to a level where they can live in a humane way? Can we increase the fees for additional lessons, courses and overtime by 100 percent? That's when the budget is better for all of us. It will be meaningful.”
