Regarding the "Teaching Profession Law", which came into force with the great reaction of educators and is currently in effect, Ministry of National Education Minister Mahmut Özer announced that it will be improved with regulations in 2023.
Educators related to the Occupational Law, which were reacted to because it was prepared without consulting the educators, demand that they be consulted at least in improvement.
The Teaching Profession Law came into force in February despite all criticism.
While educators stated that the law in practice is obsolete, it was noteworthy that Minister of National Education Mahmut Özer stated that they will make improvements in the law in 2023.
Educators underlined that the law should be regulated comprehensively in all areas from the very beginning.
Making statements about the Teaching Profession Law, Minister of National Education Özer pointed out that 516 thousand 974 of the teachers who took the Career Ladder Exam were specialist teachers and 66 thousand 679 were head teachers.
"With the new regulations in 2023, it is aimed to make additional improvements regarding the personal rights of teachers," Minister Özer said.
“LAW MUST BE PREPARED FROM ZERO”
Pointing out that the Law on the Teaching Profession is very deficient in terms of content, Chairman of the Conscious Teachers Association (ÖĞ-DER), Hamdi Sürücü stated that the later regulations will not be sufficient.
"The Law on the Teaching Profession does not include the qualifications of teaching, its training, relocation, professional ethics, personal rights, and private school teachers. There are career ladders but no definitions. The Law on the Teaching Profession does not exist so much that you did not realize the 60-year-old dream, you carried the dream 60 years further. If the law tries to recover with regulations, this regulation will only end in 60 years. Instead of this law, a law that solves the problems should be prepared from scratch. Only then will it be concluded," Sürücü said.
“TEACHING SHOULD BE TURNED INTO A DESIRABLE PROFESSION”
Pointing out that the Law on the Teaching Profession should be improved in consultation with the stakeholders, Anadolu Education Union (AES) Vice President Nihat Örs stated that grievances should be eliminated with the Teaching Profession Law.
"The Teaching Profession Law should be reconsidered in consultation with the stakeholders. Victims must be eliminated. The examination system should be reconsidered and the law should be made more inclusive. Teaching should be made a respected profession," Örs said.
