The "Mahir Unal test" has begun in the People's Alliance! The People's Alliance partner, Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) Chairman Devlet Bahçeli, targeted Justice and Development Party (AKP) Group Deputy Chairman Mahir Ünal because of his words, which stirred up the lobby. While it is stated that Ünal will be dismissed upon Bahçeli's words, there is a concern that "concessions will lead to concessions" among prominent figures of Erdoğan and AKP. On the one hand, the government, which does not want to break its alliance with the MHP, does not want to be the party that constantly makes concessions against Bahçeli. It was learned that the important names of the AKP did not want the 2nd Soylu case to occur within the party and argued that Mahir Ünal should be stood behind against Bahçeli's criticisms.

THE HARDEST REACTION TO ÜNAL CAME FROM BAHÇELİ

The speech of AKP Group Deputy Chairman Mahir Ünal at the 8th International Book and Culture Fair in Kahramanmaraş recently brought discussions with it. In his speech, Ünal criticized the republican regime over the letter revolution and said: “The harshest cultural revolution in history took place in Turkey. For example, the French revolution destroyed everything, but did not touch the dictionary. Again, one of the harshest revolutions is Mao's Chinese cultural revolution. The dictionary has not been touched. But unfortunately, as a cultural revolution, the Republic has destroyed our lexicon, alphabet, language, in short, all our thinking sets.”

The harshest reaction to these statements of Ünal came from MHP Chairman Devlet Bahçeli, a partner of the People's Alliance.

BAHÇELİ INTERPRETED IT AS “LACK OF SELF-CONFIDENCE”

Commenting on Ünal's attitude as ‘lack of self-confidence’, Bahçeli said, “The Republic of Turkey cannot and will never be shown as a categorical break, a sharp departure, a sharp deviation from the main route of thousands of years of Turkish history. In other words, the Republic is not the antithesis of our honorable past. Those who claim that the Republic has damaged Turkish culture, Turkish language and our thinking sets are in the grip of an unfortunate, indescribable and baseless mistake. By the judgment of prejudices, it is not possible to understand and explain the Republic with ideological rigidities. To say that we cannot form thoughts in our current Turkish is distorting the facts, contrary to objective developments, defaming our language, ultimately a lack of self-confidence.”

After the criticism of Bahçeli, which is a matter of curiosity, what kind of step Erdoğan will take, discussions began that Ünal could be removed from the group's vice chairmanship. However, it was learned that the important figures of the AKP were worried that the dismissal of Ünal, upon the criticism of Bahçeli, could be interpreted as a concession and would turn into the 2nd Soylu case within the party.
In this case, it is a matter of curiosity what kind of step Erdogan will take, who does not want to harm the alliance and does not want to make concessions against Bahçeli. However, according to the information received from within the party, Ünal will definitely not be dismissed.
