Most of the existing metropolitan and provincial mayors have changed in the local elections to be held one year after the earthquakes in Kahramanmaraş. New names were nominated due to the loss of image of the current presidents in the provinces affected by the earthquake and the reactions from the voters.

Most of the current mayors in the provinces and districts affected by the Kahramanmaraş-centered earthquakes were not re-nominated.

Among the metropolitan cities, the mayors of Gaziantep, Şanlıurfa, Elazığ, Adana and Hatay were re-nominated; The current presidents in Maraş, Adıyaman, Malatya, Kilis and Osmaniye were not nominated.

Confirming this situation in the surveys conducted in the earthquake provinces, AK Party replaced Kahramanmaraş Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Hayrettin Güngör, the epicenter of the earthquake, with Fırat Görgel, Adıyaman Mayor Süleyman Kılınç with Ziya Polat, Malatya Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Selahattin Gürkan with Sami Er, Kilis Mayor. He nominated Rıza Polat instead of Servet Ramazan.

On the other hand, while the discussions about Hatay Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Lütfü Savaş's candidacy continued in the CHP, the names in the districts changed.

CURRENT MAYORS WERE NOT RE-NOMINATED

On the anniversary of the February 6 Maraş earthquake, which was recorded as one of the biggest disasters in our recent history, 8 of the 11 provinces are governed by AK Party mayors, 2 provinces are governed by CHP mayors, and Diyarbakır is governed by trustees.

Citizens in the earthquake zone complain about the current mayors, whom they think are responsible for the disaster.

Stating that problems such as infrastructure problems, food and unemployment continue in earthquake cities, citizens vetoed the re-nomination of the current presidents.

The government acts by taking this picture into consideration; While it preferred existing candidates in provinces such as Gaziantep, Şanlıurfa and Elazığ, it nominated new names in Maraş, Adıyaman, Malatya, Kilis and Osmaniye.

HATAY DEBATE CONTINUES IN CHP

Discussions continue in the CHP, which has re-nominated the current Metropolitan Mayor Lütfü Savaş in Hatay, one of the provinces most affected by the earthquake.

While the issue was brought up once again at the Party Assembly meeting held yesterday, the surveys conducted again in Hatay were examined.

While it was said that the previous surveys would be evaluated once again, it was reported that new names were also on the agenda.

On the other hand, in Adana, which was affected by the earthquake, Zeydan Karalar was nominated again.

THERE WERE NO HIGH CHANGES IN THE DISTRICTS

In the districts of Hatay, which is one of the most discussed provinces in the local elections, AK Party re-nominated the current district mayors in 3 out of 10 districts, and CHP re-nominated Erzin Mayor Ökkeş Elmasoğlu.

In Adıyaman, which was affected by the earthquake, the government brought the mayors of the 4 districts it controls to the voters again, while it nominated a different name in Besni.

While CHP's Gölbaşı Mayor candidate did not change, there was a change in Tut. On the other hand, while Kemal Vural was nominated again in the Islahiye district of Gaziantep, which was almost destroyed due to the earthquake, the candidate for Nurdağı was changed.

While this table shows that the image of the current mayors has been shaken due to the earthquake, the fact of the earthquake is expected to be taken into consideration when determining other district candidates.
