Instead of developing Turkey's telecommunications infrastructure, it is becoming a serious problem. Due to the inadequacy of GSM operators, who also failed in the Kahramanmaraş-centered earthquakes, there was no good news from the disaster area for days.
 
The network problem experienced in the earthquake zone due to the infrastructure that GSM companies do not make the necessary investment is now observed all over Turkey.
 
Turkey's telecommunications infrastructure is becoming a serious problem. Due to the inadequacy of GSM operators, who also failed in the Kahramanmaraş-centered earthquakes, there was no good news from the disaster area for days.
 
The network problem experienced in the region with the base stations that became unusable with the buildings destroyed in the earthquake can now be observed all over Turkey.
 
Millions of GSM operator subscribers, who have problems with mobile phone calls and internet connections, voice their complaints through various channels.
 
The regulatory body Information and Communication Technologies Authority (BTK), which took action after the complaints of subscribers experiencing network problems as well as the communication problem in the earthquake area, launched an investigation against GSM companies.
 
However, one wonders when serious measures will be taken in Turkey, where communication, internet and GSM infrastructure have not improved despite the fines in the past.
 

“ALL TURKEY DID NOT REACH THE DISASTER ZONE”

 
Speaking about the problems of the communication infrastructure in Turkey, the President of the Consumer Confederation Aydın Ağaoğlu said, "GSM companies again failed in a disaster. We see that they do not show the necessary care when placing the base stations on the dwellings due to their costs. While this is something that affects human life, no one could reach the earthquake zone due to the base stations that were destroyed by the earthquake. All of Turkey could not reach the disaster area, those in the disaster area could not notify the authorities. As if all this was not enough, GSM companies continued to think about their profits after the earthquake. Is it acceptable to issue invoices to our citizens affected by the disaster?"
 

“IF THE OPPORTUNITY OF COMMUNICATION IS NOT PROVIDED IN THE TIME OF DISASTER, WHEN WILL IT BE OFFERED?”

 
Referring to the legal obligations of GSM companies, Aydın Ağaoğlu said, "Within the scope of the 'Service Quality Regulation in the Electronic Communication Sector' and the 'Consumer Rights Regulation', which are still in effect, GSM companies have to quickly resolve the malfunctions and provide at least 70 percent of the promised speed in internet service. Otherwise, the service rendered becomes defective. We have seen the shame of GSM companies in the disaster area. At this point, BTK should step in and consumers should report their problems. Complaints can be made easily via the BTK website. Action has been taken over the complaints received, and will be taken again. If communication will not be provided in the event of a disaster, when will it be available?"
