After the heavy rain in Kastamonu, the flooding of Ezine Stream in the district on August 11 caused the loss of life, as well as the flooding of workplaces and many houses with mud. Many workplaces in the district were destroyed in the flood, and many workplaces were damaged.

One of these workplaces was the shop of Harun Akın, a jeweler in the district. Jeweler Harun Akın was caught in a flood at his workplace. During the search after the flood, Harun Akın's body was found in the jewelery store.

In addition, during the search made at the workplace, 500 grams of gold was found in the first place. A report was taken regarding the damage at the workplace for Feridun Akın, 24, the son of Harun Akın, who lost his life in the flood during the damage assessment studies.

In the report, a payment of 1 million 100 thousand lira was made in return for the lost gold. After this payment, some more lost gold was found during the evacuation of the jewelry store by the police teams working in the district. Thereupon, Feridun Akın contacted the officials and returned the 750,000 liras, corresponding to the value of the gold found.

“THE GOLD FOUND COATED APPROXIMATELY 750,000 LIRAS, WE RETURNED IT”

Feridun Akın stated that he lost his father in the flood disaster, and added that "in the flood disaster that took place in our district on August 11, we found my father inside the shop, he passed away, I lost my father in the flood. We used to run a jewelry store here. During our search in the jewelry store, we found a gold of around 400-500 grams. Afterwards, our state said that we will compensate for the losses. They said, 'Write how much damage you have on a piece of paper and hand it over to us'. After that, when we write our loss, I give an example, if we have 2 kilograms of gold, we wrote 1.5 kilograms of gold. Because we had deducted the gold we found with our own means from the existing lost gold. After that, 60 percent of our loss was covered. One month after the incident, the money given to us was 1 million 100 thousand liras. Our state paid us this 1,100,000 liras. With this money, we covered a loss of around 60-70%. We had already deducted 200-300 grams of the part that we found as damage, I didn't know exactly how much. Our police brothers called us. So we went and got the rest of the gold from the police, which was in the shop. We weighed these gold coins, it turned out more than 1 kilo of gold. It was equivalent to about 750,000 liras. We returned this 750 thousand liras to our state again."

“THIS MONEY SHOULD BE RETURNED TO THE STATE, THAT'S WHAT WE DID”

Feridun Akın said that they returned 750,000 liras of the money paid to them to the state.

"It would not be right for us to take this money. Because there is an orphan right in this money, this is our state's money as a result. Money that people send us as aid. This was money that had to be returned to the state as a result, and that's what we did. We have done our duty," he said.
