The General Assembly of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM) convened with a special agenda under the chairmanship of Parliament Speaker Mustafa Şentop due to the start of the 27th Term 6th Legislative Year.
President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan made statements in the opening program of the legislative year. Parliament Speaker Şentop laid a wreath at the Parliament Atatürk Monument on the occasion of the opening of the legislative year.
Parliament Speaker Şentop, in his speech at the General Assembly, "Turkey is determined to protect and defend all its rights and interests within the framework of international law at all times and by all means. With an approach based on the fact that there are two different peoples and two different states on the island of Cyprus, Turkey supports the approach of TRNC President Ersin Tatar," he said.
Expressing that they are aware of the problems in the Presidential Government System, President Erdoğan pointed out that the deficiencies in the system will be completed in a short time.
Emphasizing the new constitution, Erdogan said, "Another issue that remains in our hearts is to bring our country to a civil, democratic and visionary constitution. Sincere calls were not enough to bring our country together with such an achievement. I believe that our new term Parliament will bring Turkey together with the new constitution to which it has the right, and will erase the traces of the coup periods."
"WE DID NOT CHANGE THE ECONOMY MODEL FOR NOTHING"
Stating that they will review the situation of all wage earners in a way to compensate for their losses at the beginning of the year, Erdoğan said about their new economic policies.
"We did not go out of nowhere to change our preferences in the economy model. If they hadn't tried to change the rules of the game against us while the match was going on, maybe we might not need it for a while. However, when our country was faced with an open economic attack, we showed the same attitude to this as we did to protect our borders, how we opposed the coups. Evaluating the opportunities offered by global developments, we turned our direction to the future with the understanding of 'there is good in what is'. We have built our own unique economy model by making the most of the experience of the world and our country," Erdogan added.
Reacting to the US lifting the arms embargo against the Greek Cypriot Administration, Erdoğan said following words:
"There are two separate states and peoples in Cyprus. Embargoes must end and promises of recognition and legitimacy must be kept. We do not accept the decision of the USA to lift the arms embargo against the Greek Cypriot Administration. Encouraging Greece, which is arming the islands, is incompatible with reason and alliance. We know very well by whom Greece was unleashed on us. We are aware of the game being played. The politics of provocation and tension is not for the benefit of anyone, and it will not. We advise the Greek administration to stay away from provocations that will lead to disaster for itself and its people."
