The "Mecca Road" project was inaugurated, which enables pilgrim candidates who will go to the holy land from Istanbul Airport to reach their hotels at the airports in Saudi Arabia without being subjected to procedures.
A ceremony was held at Istanbul Airport due to the pilgrim's departure.
Within the scope of the project, which was opened, pilgrim candidates will be able to handle all their transactions in the special area reserved for them at Istanbul Airport before going to Saudi Arabia.
Thanks to the facial recognition system installed at Istanbul Airport, pilgrim candidates will be able to go to their hotels at the airports in Saudi Arabia without being subjected to any processing.
Making statements to the journalists, the President of Religious Affairs Prof. Dr. Ali Erbaş expressed his satisfaction for the launch of the project.
Stating that they sent the pilgrim convoy from Istanbul to Saudi Arabia, Erbaş said, "We bid farewell to our pilgrim candidates to Mecca, Medina and Haramayn. Today, we are doing this farewell with a novelty. It will be a great convenience for us to send off our pilgrim candidates by making passports and fingerprints at airports in Mecca or Medina."
Istanbul Governor Ali Yerlikaya said that a very important project was implemented at Istanbul Airport with the cooperation between the two countries in a friendly and brotherly sense.
Emphasizing that this project provides great convenience to pilgrim candidates, Yerlikaya continued as follows:
"Every one of the inspiring conversations about going to the hotels on the way and after landing, about passport, visa, health procedures, fingerprints, luggage, their classification and sending to the hotels, the loss of time and patience related to each of these, are left behind. Both the blessing of technology and a special place called Mecca Road was built at Istanbul Airport. Here, each of the procedures that will be done by the relevant Saudi public officials when they go to Saudi Arabia is done here. When the check-in was made here, our pilgrims are given their documents as if they had entered Medina."
