The number of prisoners in prisons is increasing every day! While the number of detainees and convicts in prisons has increased rapidly, it is wondered what kind of measures the state will take.

It is stated that the number of convicts and prisoners in prisons, which was 232 thousand at the end of 2017, reached 270 thousand at the end of the first six months of 2019. As of May 2018, the Ministry of Justice announced that there were 250 thousand 764 men, 10 thousand 285 women and 2 982 children in prison, while the number of children staying with her mother was 677. However, as of June 2019, 864 children are known to be in prison with their mother. On the other hand, after the FETÖ coup attempt, the rate of occupancy in the prisons has increased to over 120 percent, while the number of detainees and convicts in the prisons has multiplied the population of many provinces.
 

CAPACITY UP FROM 111 THOUSAND TO 213 THOUSAND

 
Following the coup attempt by the Ministry of Justice, the executions of thousands of prisoners and the eviction did not help the fullness of the prisons. Thereupon, the ministry has increased the capacity of the existing 389 prisons from 111 thousand to 213 thousand by making arrangements. However, as the FETÖ arrests continued, this capacity increase was not enough. The occupancy rate in prisons rose to 121 percent as of December 28th.
