Higher Education Council (YÖK) announced to the public the numerical data on foreign students and employed foreign academic staff at universities. It was reflected in the YÖK data that universities met the shortage of academics with foreigners. According to new data, more than 2 thousand foreign academicians are working at universities. On the other hand, it seems that there is a significant increase in the number of foreign students. The number of foreign students, which was around 45 thousand in 2013, is over 153 thousand according to new data.
The Council of Higher Education shared the figures reflected in the University Monitoring and Evaluation General Report 2020 with the public. According to the figures announced by YÖK, the data on foreign students and employed foreign academic staff at universities in our country attracted attention.
THERE ARE 2,085 FOREIGN NATIONAL ACADEMICIANS
According to the announced data, 2,085 “foreign doctoral lecturers” are employed in 165 universities in our country. The number of universities employing twenty or more foreign doctoral lecturers is 24. The university that has the highest number of foreign instructors is the Middle East Technical University with 137 academicians. This is followed by Bilkent University with 90 academics, Istanbul Technical University with 57 academics, Gaziantep University with 53 academics and Artuklu University with 52 academics.
6,000 STUDENTS COME WITH EXCHANGE PROGRAMS
Some of the foreign students studying in our country also benefit from exchange programs. According to the data, 6 thousand 753 students receive education within the scope of international exchange programs such as Mevlana and Erasmus at 141 universities.
153,000 FOREIGN STUDENTS RECEIVE EDUCATION
In the data on foreign students, the figure is over one hundred thousand. The number of foreign students, which was around 45 thousand in 2013, has tripled in 8 years. According to the new figures announced, 153 thousand 662 “foreign students” study in 186 universities. The most foreign students are at Anadolu University with 6 thousand 661, followed by Istanbul University with 6 thousand 648 students, Karabük University with 5 thousand 782, Uludağ University with 5 thousand 430 and Ondokuz Mayıs University with 5 thousand 176 students.
