Shopkeepers rebelled against the electricity hike! Ankara Dry Cleaners, Laundry and Carpet Washers Chamber of Tradesmen Muharrem Erdal, has been worried about electricity hikes!
Stating that they are experiencing great difficulties due to their electricity bills, Erdal said, “Our most important input cost is electricity. The common complaint of our tradesmen registered with our chamber is the incredible hike in electricity prices recently. Dry cleaning machines have a medicine boiling system. It burns the most electricity. Electricity is essential. We cannot do business without electricity. I would like to emphasize that electricity should actually be cheaper in workplaces and industry. You can save at home, but you cannot save in the industry, in the workplaces of tradesmen and craftsmen. Our tradesmen and craftsmen, manufacturing workshops should have the opportunity to provide more cost-effective and uninterrupted electricity. Electricity should be cheaper so that production and trade are encouraged.”
“THIS MONTH I EARNED 13,000 TL BUT 15,000 TL ELECTRICITY BILL I RECEIVED"
Mahir Aka, the owner of the carpet washing company, who expressed the problems experienced in the sector, stated that they had serious problems due to their electricity bills and said, “We have to run a fan to dry the carpet, we are afraid to even start it. I did 13,000 Turkish Liras (TL) of work this month and my electricity bill came to 15,000 TL. We cannot keep up with the rate of increase in input costs. While the bag in the market is 20 TL, the bag in the carpet is 33 TL. While the kilogram (kg) of the most expensive soap in the market was 20 TL, the kg of the raw materials we use, increased from 50 TL to 350 TL.”
