Felicity (Saadet) Party Deputy Abdulkadir Karaduman submitted a question to the Presidency of the Assembly to be answered by the Minister of Agriculture and Forestry Bekir Pakdemirli.
Saadet Party Deputy Abdulkadir Karaduman stated that the exorbitant increase in fertilizer prices in recent years has become the most important problem forcing the farmers.
Reminding the emphasis on the fertilizer that Milli Gazete brought to Turkey's agenda, Karaduman said:
"According to Turkey's TURKSTAT data, a total of 2,221,000 tons of urea fertilizer was imported in the first 10 months of 2021, while the average ton price of imported urea fertilizer was 344 dollars. The fact that urea fertilizer, which was imported at an average of 344 dollars due to the pandemic, exchange rate increases and foreign markets, was sold to the farmer at a price of more than a thousand dollars indicates that there is a 'fertilizer lobby' within your Ministry that sees the farmer as a source of income. The issues that your deputy minister, to whom your General Directorate of Crop Production is affiliated, is directly related to the fertilizer company and that this situation determines the prices of fertilizer sold to the farmer, took place in the national press."
“The farmer's labor is being usurped”
Karaduman asked Minister Pakdemirli to answer the following questions:
"What are the reasons why urea fertilizer, which was sold at 1,800 TL per ton last year, is sold for 16,000 TL today? How do you explain these exorbitant price increases? What is the relationship of the person who works as your deputy minister responsible for the General Directorate of Crop Production with fertilizer companies? What is the reason why urea fertilizer, which is imported at an average of 344 dollars a ton, is sold to the farmer for more than a thousand dollars? Who profits from this transaction? Do you have any work against lobbies that make unfair profits from fertilizer? Are there any legal investigations initiated against the people/lobbyists who usurp the farmer's labor? Have any criminal action been taken against these people?"
