The 'realities' fall far behind the 'targets'

The realities fall far behind the targets

While the economic crisis experienced in the last two years has taken the country back in many areas, the "realities" have fallen far behind the "targets".

In 2023, the 100th anniversary of the Republic, the government, which announced goals such as GNP will reach 2 trillion dollars, per capita national income will reach 25 thousand dollars, exports will reach 500 billion dollars, and inflation will decrease to single digits, could not achieve any of them.

With the entry of 2023, the public once again became a matter of curiosity whether the targets set by the AK Party for 2023 could be achieved.

The government, which could not achieve the 37 goals expressed by President Erdogan himself in 2011, took the country further back in some areas.

While the target of "We will be one of the 10 largest economies in the world", which is among the 2023 promises of the political power, could not even come close, the opposite direction was taken!

When the AKP came to power in 2002, Turkey was ranked 17th in the ranking, but fell to the 20th place after 20 years in power.

Inflation and unemployment targets, which are among the promises for 2023, were also not met.

While it is stated that Turkey will be a country with single-digit inflation, according to the promises, even the falling inflation was 64.27 percent, thanks to the "base effect", according to the latest statement of TURKSTAT.

The figures, which are considered controversial, have reached 85 percent in recent months, reaching the peak of the last 24 years and worsening even from the 2001 crisis.

5 PERCENT UNEMPLOYMENT TARGET MISSED

The AKP, which set the target of 5 percent unemployment for 2023, could not reach this target either. According to the figures announced by TURKSTAT in December, unemployment in Turkey remained at the level of 9.9 percent. On the other hand, according to the Medium Term Economic Program (MTP) prepared by the Ministry of Treasury and Finance, it is predicted that the targets set by the AKP for 2023 will not be achieved even in 2025.

According to the program, the inflation figure was determined as 24.9 percent in 2023, 13.8 percent in 2024, and 9.9 percent in 2025. In addition, the targets for unemployment rates in the program were estimated as 9.9 percent for 2024 and 9.6 percent for 2025.

HALF OF THE PROMISES LOST!

In 2023, it has been announced that the per capita income will be 25 thousand dollars, the Gross National Product will be 2 trillion dollars, and the exports will be 500 billion dollars. However, none of these figures could be reached.

The per capita income, which is stated to be 25 thousand dollars, is estimated as 10 thousand 71 in 2023, 10 thousand 931 in 2024 and 12 thousand 91 in 2025, according to the Medium Term Program target, which shows that the loss is experienced by half.

Likewise, the Gross National Product, which is targeted as 2 trillion dollars, is planned to be 1 trillion dollars with a loss of half. While the export target of 500 billion dollars cannot be approached, the foreign trade deficit is breaking records.

While the President announced an "export record" in the past days, the import figures he did not share show that the foreign trade deficit, which exceeded 110 billion dollars in 2022, is the highest level seen since 1996.

THE NUMBERS REVEAL THE FACTS

Some of the targets included in the 2023 promises of the AKP are as follows:

- In 2011, the number of doctors in Turkey was 120 thousand. It was aimed to increase this number to 200 thousand in 12 years. Today's number is 144 thousand. The AKP's goal of increasing the number of physicians per 100 thousand people from 153 to 210 remained at 181.

- In 2023, there was an expectation of 50 billion dollars with 50 million tourists. According to the general figures, 28 million tourists remained at the level of 17 billion dollars.

- While the target of impoverishment rate for 2023 was 10 percent, it has been realized as 11.4 percent today.

- The road length of 36,500 km, which should have been built in 2023, is now 27 thousand km.

- While the highway target was aimed to be increased from 2 thousand 119 km to 7 thousand 500 km, the figure remained at 3 thousand 500 km.

- Target figures for high speed train and rail network could not be reached. While the railway network, which was 11 thousand km in 2011, was considered to be doubled, the figure of 12 thousand 800 km could be reached. While it is expected to increase from 444 km to 10 thousand in the high-speed train railway network, the figure remained at 1,52 km.
