Making statements after the cabinet meeting, President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan announced that the salary of civil servants was increased by 30,5 percent, while the salary of 1,266,000 retirees who received a salary of 1,500 Turkish Liras (TL) is increased to 2,500 TL.
No improvement is made for the remaining approximately 7 millions retirees.
In the new system introduced, retirees just one step above the lower base will suffer the most.
Namely; A pensioner who receives a salary of 2,800 TL while the minimum wage is 2,800 TL will receive 3,500 TL today.
The minimum wage is 4,250 TL.
Thus, the monthly loss of the middle class pensioner will reach 750 TL.
Although millions of retirees were paid as much as the minimum wage last month, they will have to settle for a salary well below the minimum wage as of this month.
