According to the Progress Report on Water and Sanitation for All, announced by UNICEF, while 29 percent of the world population has problems in accessing drinking water, Baran Bozoğlu, President of the Climate Change Policy and Research Association (Climate Association), said that 45 percent of Turkey's clean water resources are drew attention to the rate of withdrawal.
40 PERCENT OF THE WORLD POPULATION DOES NOT HAVE THE ENVIRONMENT TO WASH HANDS AT HOME
Stating that according to the "Progress Report on Water and Sanitation for All" published by UNICEF, 2.2 billion people, which make up 29 percent of the world population, are deprived of safe drinking water, Bozoğlu, "4.2 billion people are deprived of healthy sanitation, that is, water service that is properly separated from the sewage. 3 billion people, 40 percent of the world population, do not have the environment to wash their hands with soap and water at home," he said.
THERE IS 45 PERCENT WITHDRAWAL IN CLEAN WATER IN TURKEY
Bozoğlu stated in the report that 35 percent of our country could not access the water service separated from the sewage in a healthy way.
"It is stated that only 36 percent of domestic wastewater is properly treated. Another remarkable information here is that there is a 45 percent withdrawal in our country's clean water resources. It is understood from this rate how high our water stress is. Our integrated water management was given 72 points out of 100," he added.
WATER LAW STUDY MUST BE DONE
Bozoğlu said that the frequency and severity of drought started to increase in many regions with the climate crisis in the world and in Turkey.
"For example, sinkhole formations have intensified in Konya Karapınar. While there is a serious decrease in the amount of usable water in the dams, especially in the basins feeding Ankara in Central Anatolia, the structures trying to manage the water do not progress with a common plan and targets, so today 76 percent of our surface waters are contaminated and continue to be polluted. Only a strong "Water Law" study, which provides coordination and foresees the climate crisis, can affect this problem," he said.
