The 50/D problem in the academy, which is frequently brought up by the Milli Gazete, is still waiting for a solution. While the victim researchers were hopeful with the statement made by the President of Council of Higher Education (YÖK), Prof. Dr. Erol Özvar recently regarding the solution of the problem, not even a step was taken regarding the problem despite the time passed. The fact that no steps were taken regarding the problem caused the comment that "the solution remained in the statements".
While being brought to the agenda recently by the President of YÖK, Prof. Dr. Erol Özvar, the 50\D status, which came into effect 4 years ago regarding research assistants, Özvar said, "We started to make some arrangements that will enable our young research assistants with 50/D status to find a place in universities for a while after completing their doctorate, and to remedy their problems to some extent due to their current situation." In the time passed since the announcement, no steps have been taken regarding a solution yet.
THE NUMBER OF UNEMPLOYED RESEARCH ASSISTANT IS INCREASING EVERYDAY
Research Assistants Solidarity Platform Founder R.A. Ömer Orbay Çetin drew attention to the fact that 2 months have passed since the statement regarding the regulation, “The fact that weeks have passed since Head of Higher Education, Prof. Dr. Erol Özvar's statement and no solution has been produced yet, pushes researchers with 50/D to even more pessimism and increases their concerns for the future. Unfortunately, the number of 50/D research assistants who are unemployed by being cut off from their universities is increasing day by day, when a solution is not produced,” he said.
STATUS 33/A IS A PERMANENT SOLUTION
Reminding that there is still no permanent solution to the problem, Çetin emphasized that the research assistants continue to wait for a solution and added, "Research assistants in the 50/D status, who still cannot make sense of the lack of a permanent and job-safe solution, were transferred to the 33/A status and they wait 50/D problem to be resolved permanently. After the government promised a cadre, that is, job security and 3600 additional indicators, to all contracted public employees, research assistants with 50/D status also want to be involved in this process and have job security.”
