As a result of the measures not taken for years, the stray dog problem continues to cause great dangers in cities.
In many cities, while no serious measures are taken regarding the stray dogs attacking children, MAZLUMDER shared a report on the subject with the public.
While there are noteworthy information in the report, there are also articles on what needs to be done.
It is stated that 35,000 people die as a result of dog attacks every year in the world, and according to these data, it is stated that the dog is the fourth deadliest creature.
According to the estimates of the World Health Organization, the number of deaths due to rabies alone is around 40 thousand to 70 thousand each year.
NUMBER OF STRAY DOGS AROUND 10 MILLION
In the report, it is underlined that stray dogs, whose numbers are increasing day by day and living in herds on the streets, have reached the point where they threaten not only environmental cleanliness and public health, but also life safety,
The issue has reached such a level that it needs to be addressed in terms of basic human rights as well. As of 2022, it is estimated that the number of stray dogs in Turkey is around 10 million. According to 2017 data, it is stated that the number of stray dogs is around 500,000 in İzmir alone.
27 PEOPLE LOST THEIR LIVES IN THE FIRST TEN MONTHS OF THIS YEAR
One of the most striking details in the report was the information about those who lost their lives as a result of the attacks of stray dogs.
It was stated that 27 people lost their lives by being seriously injured as a result of dog attacks in the first 10 months of this year alone, and it was underlined that hundreds of people were injured in the attacks.
It was stated that 7 of our 27 citizens who lost their lives were children.
It was also emphasized that the figures in question were compiled from news sources, and it was also stated that this figure was much higher.
GREAT DANGER; PARKS HAVE BECOME DOG SHELTERS
The report also included information that closely concerns parents.
In the report, "Children's parks, which are stated to be built for children in many cities in Turkey, have become shelters for stray dogs. The invasion of children's parks, recreation areas, normal parks and gardens by dogs carries important risks not only in terms of life safety for children, but also in terms of the zoonotic diseases mentioned above. While the best interests of children are taken into consideration in all matters concerning children, stray dogs are exempted from this," it was stated.
THE REAL NUMBERS ARE EVEN TERRIBLE
The report continued as follows:
"It is seen that official institutions do not keep a report on this subject, deaths and injuries other than those reflected in the media cannot be expressed with net numbers, and deaths such as traffic accidents, heart attacks, brain hemorrhages caused by stray dogs are not shown as 'deaths caused by dogs' in the reports. Therefore, it should not be ignored that there are unrecorded deaths due to stray stray dogs."
THE PROBLEM VIOLATES PEOPLE'S RIGHT TO LIFE
In the last part of the prepared report, three articles were called to the relevant institutions and organizations:
"It reminds that it is the responsibility of the state to prevent loss of life due to stray dogs and events, facts and situations that disrupt material and moral integrity. Unless the situation created by stray and stray dogs is prevented, people; declares that his fundamental rights such as life, health, safety, protection of material existence and bodily integrity and the right to the environment have been violated. We invite the relevant authorities to urgently create and implement scientific, humane and agreed solutions for stray and stray dogs."
