Accordingly, the The Council of Higher Education (YÖK) doctoral scholarship, which is given in 100 thematic fields at state universities in the country, has been increased from 2,600 Turkish Liras (TL) to 3,825 TL. However, it got reactions in order to meet our country's need for human resources with doctorates, important scholarships were ignored, and the economic conditions in the country were ignored, and the scholarship was far below the hunger limit of 4,500 TL.
BELOW THE HUNGER LIMIT
Due to the problems experienced in our country's economy in recent years, high increases were experienced in many expenditure groups. Education expenditure items also received their share from these increases. In these economic conditions, where even the minimum wage of 4,253 TL is below the hunger limit, the fact that students who aim to carry the science and scientific life of our country forward received scholarships even less than this, causing the comments that ‘Students have fallen into a situation where they will prioritize their living expenses rather than their education expenses.’
9,000 STUDENTS BENEFIT DOCTORAL SCHOLARSHIP
Other scholarship amounts updated for 2022 are as follows:
“The YÖK 100/2000 doctoral scholarship has been increased from 2,600 TL to 3,825 TL per month for those who do not work, from 700 TL to 910 TL for employees, and the YÖK undergraduate support scholarship has been increased from 850 TL to 1000 TL. The medical scholarship has been increased from 1,200 TL to 1,500 TL, the undergraduate scholarship for foreign nationals has been increased from 1,100 TL to 1,500 TL, the graduate scholarship has been increased from 1,750 TL to 2,300 TL, and the doctoral scholarship has been increased from 2,900 TL to 3,500 TL.” Approximately 9,000 students benefit from these scholarships given by YÖK every year.
