Although one of the biggest problems of the university, the 50/D-status working research assistants, were hopeful with the statements of Council of Higher Education (YÖK) President Erol Özvar that they will produce a solution and that it will be shared with the public in the near future, but no steps have been taken regarding the problem yet. Research assistants continue to wait for a permanent solution to the problem.
Stating that they made many visits to Ankara to raise the problems of 50/D research assistants, Research Assistants Solidarity Platform Founder Research Assistant Ömer Orbay Çetin pointed out that the regulations that the research assistants tried to achieve came to the fore with these meetings and said, “The research assistants in 50/D status, who have been trying to obtain job security for a very long time, even more hopeful and awaits good news from YÖK after Eğitim-Bir-Sen Union and Türk-Egitim-Sen Union’s the 33/A request. A petition by Eğitim-Bir-Sen Union with a request for 33/A started on April 1, 2022 and will continue until May 1, 2022. Participation in the petition from all academic staff, especially research assistants with 50/D status, continues to increase in every city and university of our country.
AUTHORITIES ALSO FOUND THE TRANSITION TO 33/A REASONABLE
Stating that there are many problems caused by the 50/D status of research assistants, Research Assistants Solidarity Platform Founder Res. Assistant Ömer Orbay Çetin stated that they made an appointment to convey the problems to the authorities at YÖK, and then they met with a few authorized people from YÖK, and added, “We agreed on that the most realistic and permanent solution for the 50/D problem is to transfer the 50/D status research assistants to 33/A status. One of the teachers who a member of the YÖK Supervisory Board, Prof. Dr. Erol Özvar, with whom we held the meeting, expressed that he will convey the whole interview personally, and will explain why the most logical way to solve the 50/D problem is to be upgraded to 33/A status.”
