Turkish Statistical Institute (TURKSTAT) announced the labor force statistics for September. Accordingly, the number of unemployed people aged 15 and over in Turkey increased by 120 thousand people in September compared to the previous month and reached 3 million 482 thousand people. Unemployment rate was calculated as 10,1 percent with an increase of 0,3 points. The unemployment rate decreased by 1,3 points compared to the same month of the previous year. In the said month, the unemployment rate for the young population covering the 15-24 age group became 19,6 percent with an increase of 1,2 percentage points compared to the previous month.
THE NUMBER OF EMPLOYEE DECREASED
Excluded from seasonal effect, the number of employed people decreased by 54 thousand in September compared to the previous month and decreased to 30 million 867 thousand. The employment rate, on the other hand, decreased by 0,1 percentage points to 47,6 percent. While this rate was 65 percent for men, it was calculated as 30,6 percent for women. Excluded from seasonal effect workforce increased by 67 thousand people compared to the previous month and reached 34 million 349 thousand people. The labor force participation rate remained unchanged. It was calculated as 52,9. The labor force participation rate was 71,3 percent for men and 35 percent for women.
IDLE WORKFORCE ON THE RISE
The rate of underemployment due to time, potential workforce and the unemployed idle workforce, increased by 0,4 points on a monthly basis to 20,3 percent in September. While the combined rate of time-related underemployment and the unemployed was 14 percent, the combined rate of potential labor and unemployed was estimated to be 16,7 percent.
