According to the latest information, the USA, which has signed a 5-year defense agreement with Greece, will land 1,000 military vehicles and 120 new attack helicopters at the Alexandroupoli (Evros) Port in Western Thrace in the middle of the month.
Military cooperation between the USA and Greece has reached a remarkable level both regionally and globally. While the aforementioned relationship became a threat to Turkey, the USA increased its influence right under our noses. The process in which Greece almost came under US colonization began with the "Mutual Defense Cooperation Agreement" signed on October 5, 2019. With this agreement, Greece gave the United States permission to use all military bases in the country. The "Mutual Defense Cooperation Agreement" between Greece and the USA also ensured the unlimited use of Alexandroupolis Port by the US military elements.
According to the information in the Greek media, the new military vehicles and nearly 3,000 personnel of the US army will be welcomed by the US Ambassador to Greece Jeffrey Pyatt and the Chief of the General Staff of Greece, General Konstantinos Floros. US Ambassador Pyatt, who visited Alexandroupolis Port and visited the US base prior to the preparation of the said stack, said in a statement that the largest military equipment in history will be built in Alexandroupolis Port and the base area, following the agreement between Greece and the US.
“TURKEY'S MOVES ARE DESIRED TO BE LIMITED”
Experts on the subject of increasing military cooperation between the USA and Greece made statements to our newspaper. Retired Major General Armağan Kuloğlu said that there are two main goals in the rapprochement of the USA and Greece. In this context, Kuloğlu stated that they wanted to create a deterrent against a possible attack by Turkey against Greece, and stated that the second purpose was to surround China and squeeze Russia.
"The US wants to send the message that it is permanent in the region. They are relieving Greece's hand at the point of any military response that Turkey will give to Greece. Thus, Greece aims to secure itself and limit Turkey's moves," Kuloğlu said.
“TRYING TO SHAPE THE REGION”
Retired Major General Ali İhsan Gürcihan also commented on the USA-Greece relations to our newspaper. Stating that they are trying to shape the region and conveying that the tides in foreign policy cannot be achieved, Gürcihan noted that Turkey should continue to defend its rights without compromising its stance.
