Jean-Pierre answered journalists' questions at her daily press conference.
"We believe that Sweden should become a NATO member as soon as possible without delay," she said.
The White House spokesman stated that US President Joe Biden will continue to be "very clear and unequivocal as he has been for the past few months" on Sweden's NATO membership.
"The sooner the better. We continue to share this with Turkey, but I don't have a timeline to share," said Jean-Pierre.
Referring to her statement on the same issue yesterday, she reiterated that they are "hopeful" that Sweden will become a member at the first NATO summit.
Spokesperson Jean-Pierre reminded yesterday of Sweden's decision to extradite a prisoner linked to the terrorist organization PKK to Turkey,
Thus, Sweden has fulfilled the commitments it made under the tripartite Memorandum of Understanding that it agreed with Finland and Turkey at the NATO Summit.
NATO: “SWEDEN MEMBERSHIP IS POSSIBLE BUT NOT WARRANTY”
NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said that Sweden's NATO membership is possible until the NATO Summit on 11-12 July, but he cannot guarantee this.
Asked about the possibility of Sweden's NATO membership to catch up with the Vilnius Summit, Stoltenberg said that the Permanent Joint Mechanism meeting between Turkey, Sweden and Finland was held in Ankara yesterday, and that it took place in a constructive environment.
Stoltenberg stated that Sweden fulfilled its commitments within the scope of the Tripartite Memorandum agreed at last year's Madrid Summit.
"Turkey has legitimate security concerns. No ally has been harmed by terrorism as much as Türkiye," Stoltenberg said about Sweden's membership and continued as follows:
"Sweden's membership is possible until the Vilnius Summit, but I cannot guarantee it. We are working to ensure that Sweden's participation is possible as soon as possible. I am pleased to take this opportunity to meet with President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and to convene the permanent mechanism this week."
