Prime Minister Bennett and Foreign Minister Yair Lapid, one of the partners of the coalition government in Israel, made a joint press statement on their decision to dissolve the Parliament and hold snap elections. Addressing the citizens of Israel in his speech, Bennett said about the decision they took, "We are here at a difficult time, but we think we made the right decision for Israel."
Noting that they managed to form a government to end the collapse of the State of Israel a year ago, Bennett added: “Unemployment was high, there was desperation and protests in the country, and there was no particularly functioning government. So I decided to take this difficult step in my life and we succeeded in forming a government. We brought Israel out of the well into which it fell.”
"In recent weeks, we have done everything we can to protect this government," said Israeli Prime Minister Bennett. Bennett voted to dissolve the Parliament because the ‘settler law’ had expired and failed to get it through the House. He stressed that they took it with the aim of "preventing the country from falling into constitutional chaos."
SNAP ELECTION IS AT THE DOOR IN ISRAEL
Prime Minister Naftali Bennett and Foreign Minister Yair Lapid, one of the partners of the coalition government in Israel, announced that they agreed to hold snap elections by dissolving the Parliament. Accordingly, if the decision on the dissolution of the Assembly is approved in the vote to be held next week, Israel will hold the fifth general election in approximately 3,5 years. According to the agreement of the coalition partners, Foreign Minister Yair Lapid will be the interim prime minister until the snap elections.
NETANYAHU: “THIS IS THE WORST GOVERNMENT IN ISRAEL'S HISTORY”
Former Israeli Prime Minister and main opposition leader Benjamin Netanyahu commented, "This is the worst government in the history of Israel," after the coalition government decided to hold snap elections.
Noting that the coalition could no longer rule the country, Netanyahu said, “It was as if the country had been taken from us. First of all, about the security that all Israelis feel. The second is the high cost of living. Their skills and understanding for a solution in this matter are zero. The third issue is national pride. The horror images in which the young people of Jerusalem are afraid to raise the Israeli flag have injured all Israelis.”
Netanyahu added they would "establish a broad, strong and stable national government that will restore national pride."
