In the Sarıkamış district of Kars, Operation Sarıkamış, which was initiated by the Ottoman army during the First World War to save the lands under Russian occupation and in which many soldiers were martyred due to the clashes and freezing temperatures in the region, especially in the mountains of Allahuekber and Soğanlı, was commemorated in its 106th year.

Nesimi Demir, Head of the Felicity (Saadet) Party Sarıkamış District, "The Sarıkamış Operation is the story of soldiers marching to martyrdom in minus 45 degrees with summer clothes and burst sandals. It is the story of the braves giving up on mother, their loves and serenity for the sake of their values. It is the story of those who do not turn their back on the enemy, do not escape from the jihad, and do not leave obedience to their commanders," he said in a statement.

"IT IS IMPORTANT TO UNDERSTAND AS MUCH AS TO COMMEMORATE"

"As National Opinionist (Milli Görüşçü), we want the reasons to be discussed, researched and learned as much as we remember and talk about the results, and we are obliged to remind and bring this to the agenda every semester. On this occasion, I remember with respect and mercy our sainted martyrs who sacrificed their lives for the sake of our country on the 106th anniversary of the Sarıkamış Operation," he added.

According to the General Staff, we gave 60 thousand martyrs in Sarıkamış.

The saddest part of the war was that many of our losses were martyred not in the fighting with the Russians but because of severe cold weather conditions.
