Addressing the government through the Milli Gazete, Retired Rear Admiral Cihat Yaycı presented three very important proposals for the protection of our national rights in the Eastern Mediterranean.
Explaining the steps that Turkey should take despite the current developments in the Eastern Mediterranean, Yaycı made important recommendations to the government.
"In addition to the Exclusive Economic Zone announcement, which I have insisted on, I have three concrete suggestions about what can be done despite the drilling in the so-called 5 parcel of the Greek Cypriot Administration with Qatar Oil and Exon, and the seismic and drilling activities to be carried out in other parcels," Yaycı said.
“COMMON USE AGREEMENT WITH NORTHERN CYPRUS AND MARINE JURISDICTIONS SHOULD BE SIGNED”
Retired Rear Admiral Cihat Yaycı said that despite the developments in the Eastern Mediterranean, the government should sign a Joint Use of Maritime Jurisdiction Agreement with the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyrus (TRNC).
Underlining that the said agreement should be signed in a way that covers the maritime jurisdiction areas of Turkey and the TRNC, Yaycı said, "To explain briefly; By signing a 'maritime jurisdiction area joint use agreement' with the TRNC, Turkey states that its maritime areas are in common use with the TRNC, and thus Turkey's gain becomes the TRNC's gain. At the same time, as we have always said until today, in line with the discourse that the TRNC has a right to all sea areas around the island of Cyprus, Turkey's activities on the so-called parcels of the Greek Cypriot Administration gain legitimacy in the context of international law, based on this common use agreement of Turkey."
“TURKEY'S BLUE HOMELAND BECOME A BLUE HOMELAND OF NORTH CYPRUS”
He stated that if a Joint Use of Maritime Jurisdiction Agreement is signed with the TRNC, both Turkey and the TRNC will benefit from this situation.
Cihat Yaycı said that with this agreement, Turkey's Blue Homeland in the Eastern Mediterranean will also become the Blue Homeland of Northern Cyprus. And so, he noted that the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus will also have sea areas in the south and west of the island of Cyprus and will benefit from an enormous area and resource.
Yaycı added that with this agreement to be signed, Turkey's activities on the so-called Greek Cypriot Administration of Cyprus will gain legitimacy in the context of international law.
PAVES THE WAY TO ACTUALLY RECOGNIZING THE TRNC
Another suggestion Cihat Yaycı made to the government is to lease some elements from Turkey's fleet of seismic exploration and drilling vessels to the TRNC, and to enable the TRNC to drill with its own flag in the said maritime jurisdiction areas. it happened.
Expressing that the TRNC's state presence and influence will be strengthened with this move, Yaycı emphasized that the activities of TRNC flagged seismic and drilling vessels will constitute a strategic move in the international arena.
Yaycı also stated that the said move will pave the way for the de facto recognition of the TRNC, "Drilling and seismic research activities will gain de facto legitimacy by the Greek-Greek Cypriot duo, as well as by the EU under their influence and within the framework of their claims, and will surprise them greatly," he added.
“WE SHOULD NOT BE CONSIDERED WITH THE ORAL STATEMENTS OF THE USA AND QATAR”
The last suggestion of Yaycı to the government on what can be done despite the drilling in the so-called 5 parcel of the GCA with Qatar Oil and Exon, and the seismic and drilling activities to be carried out in other parcels, was as follows:
"Not being satisfied with the verbal statements of the USA and Qatar, the search operation should be started immediately in the 5th parcel, the flag should be displayed on the field and our discourse that the TRNC has the right in the whole of the island should be put into practice."
Expressing that he believes all of the proposals he has made to the government will be very important and multidimensional diplomatic and legal strategic moves, Yaycı added that there are no reasonable obstacles to making these moves.
