The tornado in the Çandır Neighborhood of the Serik District destroyed the minaret of the Merkez Mosque. The house of the mosque muezzin Emin Uygun, on which the minaret fell, was damaged. Stating that they heard a hum and noise while they were at home with their family, Uygun said, “The ceiling of the house went down. I realized that the minaret had collapsed, so I immediately took my children and left the house. No casualties, no injuries; there was only damage to the house. The minaret has come down completely. The danger still continues, half on the ground, half on the house. The house could collapse at any moment." Ali İhsan Nacak, one of the residents of the neighborhood, said, “A tornado came from below and it destroyed the house in an instant. We had just built the house. No one was sitting in it. The house was completely in ruins. There is damage in the greenhouses." There was a power outage in the region, where the downpour and storm also affected life negatively. District Agriculture and Forestry Manager Mustafa Çömezoğlu stated to the Anatolia Agency (AA) correspondent that they are carrying out field studies and said, "According to the initial determinations, damage has occurred to nearly 50 producers who have a greenhouse of approximately 110 decares. We continue our work in the field for a definitive determination. In our region, there have been losses in greenhouses where mostly tomatoes, peppers, eggplant and cucumbers are produced.”
GREENHOUSES DAMAGED IN AKSU DISTRICT
In Aksu district, greenhouses in some neighborhoods were damaged due to tornado and storm. Flooding occurred in some houses in the neighborhoods where affected by the rain. District Agriculture Directorate teams started to work on damage assessment in the damaged areas.
A STUDENT WAS INJURED
Tornado and storm in Alanya district caused damage to greenhouses and a school, the student staying in the dormitory of the school was slightly injured. The tornado in Türkler Neighborhood damaged Türkler Borsa İstanbul Social Sciences High School. A student staying in the dormitory section of the school was slightly injured due to broken windows and tiles falling from the roof. In Türkler, Yeniköy, Elikesik and Konaklı neighborhoods, greenhouses and gardens were damaged. Tahir Göktepe, President of Alanya Chamber of Agriculture, said to AA correspondent, that the storm and tornado were especially effective in the western region of the district. Pointing out that they are conducting an investigation in the region, Göktepe stated that the producers have started damage assessment studies in their gardens and greenhouses.
