After Ankara normalized its relations with the Tel Aviv regime, the expected step came and Turkey appointed an ambassador to the Israeli regime. Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu informed the ambassadors of their new duties, while Şakir Özkan Torunlar was appointed to the Israeli regime. With the Ambassadors Decree approved by President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, Şakir Özkan Torunlar became Turkey's ambassador to the Israeli regime. Torunlar served as the Consulate General of Jerusalem between 2010 and 2014. After the normalization of relations between Turkey and Israel, it was decided to appoint an ambassador as a result of the agreement reached between Ankara and Tel Aviv. Following the decision, on September 19, the Israeli regime government appointed Irit Lillian as the Ankara ambassador.
WHO IS SAKIR OZKAN TORUNLAR?
Şakir Özkan Torunlar, who was appointed as Turkey's ambassador to the Israeli regime, graduated from TED Ankara College and graduated from Ankara University Faculty of Political Sciences in 1982. Torunlar, who joined the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 1983, held various foreign assignments. Torunlar, who also took on the duties of deputy general manager for the Middle East and deputy general manager for security affairs, became the Bangladesh ambassador between 2008-2010, and served as the Palestinian ambassador between 2010-2014 as the consul general in Jerusalem. Şakir Özkan Torunlar was the ambassador of India between January 2017 and May 2021. Torunlar was also a member of the Foreign Policy Advisory Board as of 2021.
