Flow to gas plants was reduced last Thursday after Iran stopped gas shipments to Turkey; It was also announced that the use of natural gas and electricity by large-scale industry would be limited.
In this context, with the energy problem in the manufacturing industry, as of January 21, a 40 percent restriction was made in the natural gas used by the factories.
As of Monday, January 24, electricity cuts that will last 3 to 4 days have started in all Organized Industrial Zones (OIZ) in Turkey.
Making a statement on the subject, Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Fatih Dönmez gave the signal for complete closure.
Dönmez stated that the industrialists suggested a full shutdown for a few days and then working at full capacity instead of working at half capacity in this process.
INDUSTRIALISTS REACTS TO THE SITUATION
After the gas coming from Iran to Turkey is cut off, natural gas and electricity cuts are experienced for organized industrial zones and electric cycle power plants. It is feared that first natural gas and then power cut decisions to industry will have a negative impact on companies' production and export plans. Making a statement on the subject, Organized Industrial Zones Supreme Organization (OSBÜK) states that the cuts affect the industry negatively, while food producers also express that they want to be exempt from cuts.
The industrialists, who made a statement about the difficulty of reaching to natural gas and electricity in industrial zones, are reacting to the situation. Expressing that they have many contracted orders, industrialists say that their companies will suffer great losses. It is stated that disruption in sectors that are directly related to daily needs, such as agriculture, manufacturing and logistics, may cause a great supply shortage.
COMPANIES WILL SUBJECT GREAT LOSS AND DAMAGE
Making a statement on the subject, Ali Bahar, the President of Antalya Organized Industrial Zone, said, “There are many contracts and agreements. We have orders. Our companies will suffer great losses and damages. Agriculture, manufacturing and logistics sectors are vital sectors that rotate daily and have daily needs. The disruption of these sectors may bring along a great supply shortage in the country. In addition, the cessation of production in the country may cause resentment in the society and may also fuel stockpiling. It should be noted that such uncertainties can have irreparable consequences in inflation.”
