Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu extended condolences over the death of former Iranian president Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani.
Cavusoglu said in a Twitter message he was “deeply saddened” by the demise of Rafsanjani.
"May Allah rest his soul in peace. Condolences to family/people of Iran," he wrote.
Rafsanjani passed away at the age of 82 in Tehran on Sunday, according to Iranian media.
The head of Iran’s Expediency Council was rushed to hospital after suffering a heart failure in the afternoon, and efforts to revive him were unsuccessful, state media reported.
The influential politician was born on Aug. 25, 1934. He served as the fourth President of Iran between 1989 and 1997.
