Turkey opens Ilgaz Tunnel

The Ilgaz 15 July Independence Tunnel, dug through Turkey`s Ilgaz Mountain, will be opened on Monday.

The Ilgaz 15 July Independence Tunnel, dug through Turkey`s Ilgaz Mountain, will be opened on Monday.
 
Its entry and exit points are designed to resemble a shark`s mouth. The project consists of two tunnels: One is 5.370 meters long and the other has a length of 5.391 meter.
 
It will cut travel distance along the existing route by 5.4 kilometers(3.3 miles).
 
Travel times on the Ilgaz Mountain motorway will be cut from 35 minutes to 8 minutes.
 
It will contribute 38.2 million Turkish liras($10.8 million) to the country`s economy annually, saving drivers 8.3 million liters of fuel and
shaving off 345.655 hours from journey times.
