Turkey received 34.3 points out of 100 according to the index, which examines how countries with publicly available data on the deadly virus have managed the pandemic over a period of 36 weeks after their 100th confirmed case.
The index, in which New Zealand placed at the top and Brazil placed last, evaluated factors such as confirmed cases and deaths, confirmed cases per million people, confirmed deaths per million people, confirmed cases as a proportion of tests and tests per thousand people.
As of Saturday, Turkey's overall case tally has registered at 2.47 million, while the nationwide death toll has reached 25,865 with 129 fatalities in the last 24 hours.
More than 29.4 million coronavirus tests have been carried out in the country of 84 million to date, according to the health ministry.
Countries with populations less than 10 million people consistently outperformed their larger counterparts in 2020, according to the index.
The study also found that democracies, with the notable exception of the United Kingdom and the United States of America, found marginally more success than other forms of government in steering the pandemic.
Turkey, previously considered to be a hybrid regime, was downgraded to the status of a “moderate autocracy” in the 2020 version of the University of Würzburg’s Democracy Matrix, a tool for measuring the quality of democracy of over 170 countries in the period between 1900 and 2019.
