The pain of the 7.4 magnitude earthquake that occurred in Kocaeli Gölcük 23 years ago is still fresh.

It has been 23 years since the Gölcük earthquake, which stifled millions. The earthquake, in which 18 thousand 373 people lost their lives and 48 thousand 901 people were injured, took place on August 17, 1999 at 03.02.
 
The earthquake with a magnitude of 7.4, which lasted for 45 seconds, also caused loss of life in Istanbul, Bolu, Bursa, Eskişehir, Yalova and Zonguldak.
 
On the anniversary of the earthquake, in which thousands of buildings were destroyed and workplaces became unusable, experts reminded the expected Istanbul earthquake and drew attention to the need to take necessary measures immediately.

In Kocaeli Gölcük, where the earthquake took place, 9 thousand 477 people died.
