Savings finance companies shut down, victims of ‘Evim’ are helpless for months.

21 of 27 companies, known as ‘Evim companies’, carrying out savings financing activities, were closed with a decision taken by the Banking Regulation and Supervision Agency (BDDK). It was stated that citizens working with savings finance companies, which were closed on the grounds that they did not meet the adaptation conditions, would not lose their rights, and that citizens who wanted could agree with 6 companies that were not closed or get their money. However, thousands of people who want to buy interest-free housing or cars have not been able to get their rights for months. ‘Evim’ (My House) victims, who complain that their money has lost value due to the economic crisis, cannot find an interlocutor neither in the Saving Deposit Insurance Fund (TMSF), the savings finance companies with which they have agreements, nor in the BDDK. Aziz Güzel, one of the victims of ‘My House’, told the Milli Gazete about the victimization he has been experiencing for months.

“I DON'T UNDERSTAND WHAT KIND OF SITUATION I AM IN”

Last year, we partnered with ‘Hedef Evim’ company to buy a car without paying interest. Stating that they agreed, Aziz Güzel said, “We made an agreement to buy an interest-free car in November 2020. They told me I could get my call until May. We paid 82,500 Turkish Liras (TL) for a 150,000 TL priced car. We would pay the rest month to month. However, as we approached May, they said, 'We can return your car in July or we can refund your money if you want'. I also asked for my money back, but they did not give my money back and I had to wait until July, but when July came, I could not get neither my car nor my money. I don't understand what kind of situation I'm in."

“I CAN'T EVEN GET BACK THE MONEY I GAVE”

Stating that the 82,500 TL he gave to buy an interest-free car has now lost half its value and the car prices have increased, “When we came to the middle of July, I started calling persistently, they said that ‘we can now get our rights back through the TMSF’. There has been no information from the TMSF for months. We have been victims for a long time more than 1 year, but every time we call the TMSF, they turn us away by saying, 'We will make a press release soon'. My money has lost half its value. I was going to buy a car, the prices went up a lot. All aside, I can't even get back the money I gave," Aziz Güzel added.
