December 2020 results of the poverty line research calculated by the United Public-Business Confederation (Birleşik Kamu-İş) based on the amount of food that a family of four must consume in order to have a balanced and healthy diet, taking into account the hunger limit and the expenditures other than food, as well as food.
In the research conducted by Birleşik Kamu-İş, it was stated that while the hunger limit increased by 45 lira to 3146 lira in the range compared to the previous month, the expenditure required for non-food needs increased by 73 lira to 841 lira, and the poverty line increased to 11187 lira with an increase of 118 lira in December.
HUNGER LIMIT INCREASED BY 438 TL PER YEAR
It was emphasized that the high-rate increases in food prices last year caused the hunger limit, which was calculated according to a basket formed of food items based on a family of four, to increase to 3146 lira at the end of 2020, and it was stated that the hunger line increased by 438 lira annually.
NON-FOOD EXPENDITURES RISE ALSO
According to the research, while the clothing and footwear expenses of a family of four decreased by 2 lira to 597 lira in December 2020 compared to the same month of the previous year, the expenses for housing (including rent) increased by 129 lira to 481 lira. Household spending increased by 139 lira to 875 lira, and health spending increased by 41 lira to 278 lira. Transportation expenditures were increased by 324 lira and increased to 809 lira. Communication expenditures increased by 16 lira to 305 lira, entertainment and cultural spending increased by 32 lira to 342 lira. Education expenditures increased to 245 liras with an increase of 16 lira compared to the same month of the previous year, while travel-tourism expenditures increased by 94 lira to 837 lira. It was stated that the amount of expenditure required for non-food needs was calculated as 7497 TL.
