Turkeys inflation rate soars to almost 70 percent

According to government officials, inflation, which was expected to peak in May, increased by 7.25 percent in April, while annual inflation rose to 69.97 percent.

According to the data of the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK), the Consumer Price Index (CPI) increased by 7.25 percent and the Domestic Producer Price Index (D-PPI) increased by 7.67 percent on a monthly basis in April.
 
Annual inflation was recorded as 69.97 percent in consumer prices and 121.82 percent in domestic producer prices.
 
Considering the 12-month averages as of April, consumer prices increased by 34.46 percent and domestic producer prices increased by 72.03 percent.
 
CPI increased by 31.71 percent in April compared to December of last year, and D-PPI increased by 39.23 percent compared to December 2021.
 
ENAGrup Consumer Price Index (E-CPI), on the other hand, increased by 8.68 percent in April. The last 12-month increase in e-CPI was 156.86 percent.
 

MONTHLY INCREASE IN FOOD 13.38 PERCENT

 
In terms of main expenditure groups, the main groups with the highest increase in April were food and non-alcoholic beverages with 13.38 percent, housing with 7.43 percent, clothing and shoes with 6.96 percent, respectively.
 
The main groups that showed the least increase in April were miscellaneous goods and services with 0.93 percent, health with 1.31 percent and communication with 2.87 percent.
 

FOOD INFLATION RESISTED TO 90 PERCENT

 
The main groups with the highest annual increase in CPI compared to April 2021 were transportation with 105.86 percent, food and non-alcoholic beverages with 89.1 percent, and household goods with 77.64 percent, respectively.
 
The lowest increase was seen in communication with 18.71 percent, clothing and shoes with 26.23 percent, education with 27.73 percent and health with 35.95 percent.
 
While the average price of 27 of the 409 items included in the index decreased in April, the average price of 45 remained unchanged. The average price of 337 items increased.
 

RENTAL INCREASE RATE 34.46 PERCENT

 
With the announcement of the inflation figures, the rent increase rate in May, which concerns millions of households, was also announced.
 
According to the data announced by TURKSTAT, the 12-month average CPI determines the increase in rental prices.
 
Accordingly, the rate of increase for citizens who will make a new lease agreement in April will be 34.46 percent.
 
Thus, the citizen's rent from 1000 liras will increase to 1,344,6 liras if it is a raise period, and to 2,689.2 liras from 2 thousand liras.
 

THE HIGHEST PRICE INCREASE: ONION

 
On the basis of consumer prices, the highest price increase in April was seen in dried onions with 69.3 percent. The price increase in dry onions was followed by curly with 45.27 percent, tomatoes with 42.26 percent and potatoes with 41.1 percent. Last month, the highest price decrease was in cucumber with 21.43 percent. This was followed by pumpkin with 15.42 percent, diaper fee with 8.12 percent, hair care products with 7.34 percent, and cleaning and care products for hygienic floors with 7.12 percent.
 

WE ARE FIRST IN EUROPE AND SIXTH IN THE WORLD

 
With the announced inflation figures, Turkey ranked 6th in the world inflation league.
 
Venezuela ranked first with 284 percent inflation, followed by Sudan with 260 percent, Lebanon with 208 percent, Syria with 139 percent, and Zimbabwe with 96 percent, while Turkey ranked sixth with 69.97 percent.
 
In Europe, Turkey maintained its first place.
 
Russia with 16.7 percent, Ukraine with 13.7 percent, the Netherlands with 9.7 percent, Spain with 8.4 percent, Germany with 7.4 percent, England with 7 percent, Ireland with 6.7 percent, Italy with 6.2 percent, Sweden with 6 percent and France with 4.8 percent followed.
 
Inflation in the USA, which broke the record of recent years, was 8.5 percent.
