Turkey’s ban on worker layoffs, originally designed to last until mid-July, will be extended within the “new employment shield” financial aid package, news broadcaster NTV reported on June 9.

While the new package is predicted to extend the ban on layoffs for another three months, cash aid to workers on unpaid leave will also continue for another quarter.

This amount is a daily 39 liras and 24 kurus, which adds up to 1,177 liras monthly (less than $200).

The package will reportedly subsidize employers for bonuses to employees who have returned to work full time.

Encouraging employment

A financial incentive to register workers who are not in the social security institution is predicted to be included in the new financial aid package.

Registering any workers who worked between January 1, 2019 and April 17, 2020 will qualify businesses for financial aid, which will come out of the unemployment fund.

Hiring new employees will also help businesses qualify for cash aid until the end of September.
