Turkey’s exports are expected to drop around 17% in March, as the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic leads to a decline in trade with some of its biggest partners, Trade Minister Ruhsar Pekcan said on April 1.

“We’ll announce the exact numbers tomorrow, but we will pull it together with contactless trade,” Pekcan said, adding that exports to Iran declined by 82%, those to Iraq by 48%, to France by 32.5% and to Germany by 14%.

Pekcan also said that international organizations made downward revisions on growth expectations.

“When we consider these, Turkey had a very good start to this year. While exports of China fell 17 percent, Norway by 12 percent, Brazil by 9 percent in January and February, our exports during the same time period increased by 4.3 percent,” she said.
