Vahap Munyar submitted his resignation to Hürriyet through the notary after 42 employees were fired from the daily without Munyar's or human resources manager's consent, the news site said.
Turkey’s Demirören Group, known for its close tie to the country’s ruling Party AKP, bought Hürriyet and numerous other media assets belonging to businessmen Aydin Doğan in March 2017, in a move which critics labelled as the last nail in the coffin of free media in the country.
Following the acquisition, then editor-in-chief Fikret Bila resigned while 386 workers, including several high-profile journalists, were dismissed from their jobs.
