Upon the proposal of Saadet Party and the CHP, the General Assembly of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM) convened extraordinarily with the agenda of "tax increases and hikes".

While the AK Party and MHP deputies did not enter the General Assembly hall during the roll call, they entered the hall after the meeting quorum was met despite this.

In the proposal submitted by the opposition, the increase in VAT and SCT rates by the government on July 18 and the price increase in basic needs products were discussed.

“LET'S RECOVER THE RETIREMENT GRIEVANCES IMMEDIATELY”

Selcuk Ozdag, Group Chairman of Saadet Party, "Today, the ruling circles saw our reason for calling the Supreme Assembly to an extraordinary meeting as a populist attraction and even a waste of time. A unrest about minimum wage and pensions… By regulating a law; Let's arrange pension grievances now, let's not wait for January. Mr. President says, 'Yes, there is a grievance, we have a deficiency. We will make up for this deficiency, wait patiently.' There is a 6-month period until the time you say wait patiently. During this 6-month period, people will not be able to take a vacation, they will be crushed by inflation. While our citizens send their children to school, they will experience serious difficulties in transportation in private schools. Does a political party lie to its citizens? It is another thing to exaggerate the promises that it cannot deliver, to present things that are not, as if they exist, to pump hope into the society with false rumors after Mount Kaf, and to blindly cast eyes on them," he said.

“THESE HIRE AND TAX INCREASES ARE JUST A BEGINNING”

Özdağ criticized the price hikes.

"I am truly sorry to say this. But believe me, these are our better days. These hikes and tax increases are more fragmentary. In the coming months, the government will continue to take everything out of the pockets of the citizens by deliberately fueling inflation. They were saying that the Central Bank has billions of dollars of foreign exchange reserves and tons of gold stock. Even the natural gas in the Black Sea and the oil in Gabar were said to be enough to cover the expenses of ten earthquakes like this. Where is it? The natural gas that you will give to the citizens for free? That enormous oil in Gabar, where we will dock the tractor and fill our tanks," he added.
