Turkish military announced Wednesday that Turkish jets destroyed 16 caves and shelters used by terrorists in northern Iraq Tuesday evening.
According to the Turkish General Staff, the airstrikes were carried out in northern Iraq’s Qandil and Avasin-Basyan regions.
The military has previously targeted the PKK terror group in northern Iraq.
More than 1,200 people, including security force personnel and civilians, have lost their lives since the PKK -- listed as a terrorist organization by Turkey, the U.S., and EU -- resumed its decades-old armed campaign in July 2015. The civilian casualties include many women and children.
