"Enerji Bir-Sen" Union Chairman Hacı Bayram Tonbul drew attention to the housing crisis in his statement.

Wanting to solve the civil servant's housing problem, Tonbul stated that the astronomical increase in house rents due to inflation, due to the effect of the Ukraine-Russian War, creates a problem in finding a house for civil servants, especially in metropolitan cities, and that a solution should be found urgently.

With the outbreak of the Russia-Ukraine War on February 24, an intense influx of Ukrainians took place in Turkey. The fact that Ukrainians who settled in many metropolitan cities paid high amounts in foreign currency or indexed to foreign currency created an opportunity for homeowners. The rents, which increased 5-10 times in the regions where Ukrainians rented houses, also aggrieved the civil servants who carried out public services in the region and whose purchasing power was decreasing day by day due to inflation.

"RENTAL REGULATION DOES NOT COVER NEW AGREEMENTS"

Even though the rent regulation, which was prepared against the increasing house rents throughout Turkey and which was approved by the Parliament, limits the increase rate of existing lease agreements to 25 percent, those who will enter a house as new tenants are faced with exorbitant rents indexed to the exchange rate. Existing tenants are being forced out of the house by the landlords. On a ground where the war has been turned into an opportunity, especially those with fixed incomes are helpless.

TONBUL: “ASTRONOMIC RENTALS ARE DEMANDED FROM CIVIL SERVANTS”

"Enerji Bir-Sen" Chairman Hacı Bayram Tonbul stated that cities such as Istanbul, Ankara, İzmir, Antalya and Bursa came to the fore in the housing shortage.

"The situation in Antalya, which is the most preferred city, is much worse than other cities. Rents vary between 12-18 thousand TL on average. As the location becomes centralized, the rents exceed 20 thousand TL. In a city like Antalya, many public institutions are in the city center, let alone the center, even if it is far from the center, which official can pay 12 thousand TL of rent with which salary? In the current situation, in the regions where exorbitant housing sales and rent increases are experienced, the civil servants, whose accommodation opportunity has become economically impossible, are rightfully starting to demand appointments to other provinces," he said.

“NO HOUSE FOR SALE OR AVAILABLE”

Making the call, Tonbul used the following statements:

"This situation, which is experienced in Antalya, where tens of thousands of civil servants reside, cannot find a house for sale or rent, or even if they can find it; This situation, which cannot be predicted how long it will last, needs to be alleviated by increasing and expanding the number of lodgings that are currently insufficient in many cities across Turkey, increasing the purchasing power of public officials during this period, and quick solutions such as rent assistance. Otherwise, the issue of 'not hiring personnel in the region' will soon turn into a critical problem for the public."
