The Turkish military says Friday its troops have been deployed in Syria's Idlib following up on an international agreement to establish de-escalation zones as part of a cease-fire regime.

The troops will be deployed between Idlib and Afrin, an Aleppo district near the Turkish border held by the PKK/PYD terrorist organization.

The mission is being conducted under the rules of engagement agreed in May among the guarantor countries including Turkey, Iran and Russia.

Ankara backs groups opposed to Syrian leader Bashar al-Assad’s regime, while Russia and Iran support the regime.

Turkish armed forces will build reconnaissance points in more than 10 areas, starting from northern Idlib and gradually extending to the southern part of the province.
