Millions of fixed-income citizens in Türkiye, where the economic crisis has been effective, have difficulties in making it to the end of the month due to the hikes in items such as rent, food, clothing and transportation.

Despite the increase exceeding 50 percent in January, millions of minimum wage earners, who lost their purchasing power due to the cost of living, began to wait for the interim hike to be made in July.

The Minimum Wage Determination Commission, which came together to discuss the interim increase to be made; In the third meeting, the workers, employers and the government agreed on the interim time to be made.

The minimum wage, announced by the Minister of Labor and Social Security Vedat Işıkhan, increased by 34 percent to 11,402 liras, while the new wage was calculated based on the dollar exchange rate and remained on the basis of 482 dollars.

While this situation revealed that the former Minister of Labor and Social Security Vedat Bilgin's "500 dollar" formula was not applied, 500 liras were reduced monthly from the pockets of millions of minimum wage earners.

While it is stated that the rise in the exchange rate will continue, it is also stated that the minimum wage will not melt against the dollar.

SLIGHTLY ABOVE THE HUNGER LIMIT

Following the newly announced minimum wage figure, eyes were turned to the hunger and poverty line figures for May announced by Türk-İş, which represents the worker side.

Despite the increase of 54% in January and 34% in July, 88% in total, the monthly living cost of a single employee, according to Türk-İş's data for May, remained below 13 thousand 440 liras.

On the other hand, it could not come close to the poverty line of 33,750 liras, which is required for a family of 4 to survive, especially the monthly food expenses.

Similarly, there was a difference of one thousand lira between the hunger limit, which was announced as 10,360 liras in May data, and the new minimum wage.
