Minister of Justice Yılmaz Tunç attended the 2023 Lawyers' Meeting program held in Sancaktepe and explained the reforms to be made in the judiciary in the coming period.

Reminding the human drama and tragedy in Gaza, Tunç said, "Those who committed this crime against humanity will eventually be held accountable before the judiciary. You cannot be worshiped through cruelty. Babies and innocent civilians are being killed by bombs in Gaza. Where is the West that defends human rights and children's rights?"

Noting that they are working to maximize trust in the judiciary, Tunç said, "The number of our courthouses, which was 60 in 2002, has reached 400 today. 24 thousand judges and prosecutors work in the judiciary and dispense justice. After the trauma we experienced on July 15, there was a huge gap in the number of judges and prosecutors in our judicial system. We, as the Ministry of Justice, tried to fill this gap in a short time. It is not important that we have a high number of judges and prosecutors, what is important is that we increase the quality of the judiciary. To train our students to be qualified, similar to the master-apprentice relationship, as soon as they graduate from our law faculties and become lawyers, prosecutors and judges."

Tunç said that they will accelerate their efforts to strengthen the judiciary with the judicial reform strategy document.

"The judiciary, along with the legislature and executive, is the most important pillar that keeps the state alive. Being a lawyer, which is our citizens' right to defense, is the most important element in the judiciary. In this context, as the Ministry of Justice, we will work to strengthen the right of defense of our freelance lawyers," Tunç added.
