November foreign trade data of Turkish Statistical Institute (TURKSTAT) for urea fertilizer imports has been published.

Accordingly, in November, Turkey imported 345,624 tons of urea fertilizer. While 3/4 of the imports were made from Oman, the import price increased from 458 dollars/ton to 598 dollars/ton on average compared to October.

In other words, the price of imported urea fertilizer increased by 140 dollars per ton compared to October. Considering the import prices from Oman in November, it is seen that the imported fertilizer is sold to the farmer for twice the price.

In November, the ton price of urea fertilizer was between 10,000 Turkish Liras (TL) and 13,500 TL, while the dollar rate was between 9,5 TL and 12,9 TL.

While the dollar rate was at the level of 10,6 TL until November 20, it increased to 12,9 TL at the end of November. In other words, according to these data, when the US dollar rate and urea sales prices in November are compared, it is seen that urea fertilizer, which is imported at an average of 600 dollars, is sold to the farmer between 1,100 and 1,150 dollars.

PAKDEMİRLİ HAD SAID "TURKSTAT IS NEEDED FOR EVERYONE"!

Agriculture and Forestry Minister Bekir Pakdemirli, against the opposition criticizing TURKSTAT during the ministry's 2022 budget negotiations in the Assembly; “The institutions of this state are needed by everyone. You cannot come to power, but if you come to power one day tomorrow, TURKSTAT is neeed, the forest is needed, the others are needed too," he pointed out the importance of the TURKSTAT data.

It is significant that Minister Pakdemirli, who "pointed to the importance of TURKSTAT data" despite the fact that the fertilizer profiteering, which had a major blow to Turkey's agricultural production, was documented in TURKSTAT, remained silent against the profiteering on fertilizers.

THE SILENCE OF THE MINISTRY OF AGRICULTURE TO TURKSTAT CERTIFIED FERTILIZER PROFITEERING ATTRACTS ATTENTION!

It is noteworthy that the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry remained silent about this profiteering, although the figures of TURKSTAT reveal the profiteering in fertilizers.

Although the news of Milli Gazete based on the first 10 months of 2021 data of TURKSTAT revealed and the headline of ‘Profiteering reflected on the TURKSTAT data!’ aroused great public repercussions, the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry did not give an answer to the allegations that was brought to the agenda in the news and that hundreds of thousands of farmers were waiting for an explanation.

LOWER TONAGE UREA FERTILIZER IMPORTED FROM 7 COUNTRIES EXCEPT OMAN

In November, Turkey imported urea fertilizer from 7 countries except Oman (Iran, Egypt, Libya, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, Azerbaijan and Kazakhstan). While 256,000 tons of 345,624 tons of imports were made from Oman, the total import figure from 7 other countries was 89,600 tons. The low-tonnage imports from these countries are as follows:

“3,100 tons from Iran, 29,600 tons from Egypt, 2,600 tons from Libya, 6,700 tons from Uzbekistan, 23,000 tons from Turkmenistan, 20,000 tons from Azerbaijan and 5,000 tons from Kazakhstan.”

It is observed that the prices of imports from these countries increased compared to October. Iran was 514 dollars, Egypt 737 dollars, Libya 830 dollars, Uzbekistan 599 dollars, Turkmenistan 763 dollars, Azerbaijan 707 dollars and Kazakhstan 781 dollars.
